World Startup Factory is excited to announce today at ImpactFest, Europe’s biggest impact meetup where doing good and doing business come together, that the company has achieved B Corp™ Certification. A mark of trust that recognizes its ambition to act beyond profit and put meaningful entrepreneurship at the heart of its business strategy.
A community that uses business as a force for good
In doing so, World Startup Factory is joining the community of other Certified B Corporations like Tony’s Chocolonely, Triodos, and Patagonia. World Startup Factory is now the first early-stage investor and startup accelerator to be certified in Europe. A major achievement at a time where new meaningful businesses solutions and entrepreneurship are required to tackle the global challenges the world is facing. By becoming part of the B Corp™ community World Startup Factory also wants to pave the way for startups and other companies to join this global community that is redefining what it means to be successful in business.
Hubertine Roessingh, Co-Executive Director of B Lab® Europe: “The B Corp Movement believes in fruitful collaboration and interdependence between purpose-driven businesses. We are therefore proud and excited to welcome the World Startup Factory to our community of B Corps and set an example for early stage enterprises.”
New ventures for positive change
World Startup Factory invests in early stage tech companies within energy, health, sustainable cities, and agrifood. In the past years the company has attracted 45 teams from all over the world to help them build a thriving international business. With their headquarters in Europe’s leading impact ecosystem The Hague, The Netherlands (Impact City), the company is now expanding its international network with offices in Asia, Africa and the US, aiming to have 300 new startups in their portfolio by the end of 2022.
Ayon Hazra, founder of portfolio company AcreCX, said:
“I joined the World Startup Factory program with my co-founder in 2017. It was critical at the start of our journey to have a partner embracing the vision of building sustainable value chains via transparency and traceability – believing that blockchain would be pivotal in creating a fair democratized ecosystem and recognized the unique capabilities of my team. Even now, over two years after joining the acceleration program, the people of World Startup Factory are true co-entrepreneurs helping us to achieve our impact”.
Why becoming a certified B Corp™?
From the very beginning, World Startup Factory aim is to contribute to realizing the UN Sustainable Development Goals by supporting impact-driven entrepreneurs with capital, networks, and expertise. The decision to aim for a B Corp™ Certification is part of their ambition to be Europe’s most sought-after partner for impact driven founders that want to accelerate the validation and development of their business solution for a societal challenge.
Mathijs Koper, founder and COO of World Startup Factory, said:
‘We have experienced that going through the B Corp™ assessment is way more than just measuring your impact. It helped us prioritize areas for improvement, which also professionalized our overall operations and made it clear what steps were to be taken next. The support of impact driven startups is of course at the heart of what we do, our improvement potential is at the employee and governance side. This progress goes hand in hand with becoming a preferred employer and partner to invest with.”
